Artificial right arm (on the left) for a below-elbow amputee, made by McKay for use in heavy duty work. It can be fitted with a number of attachments: for example, a round, plain hook, a carpenter's tool-holder with a square clamp, a general purpose mechanical spring split-hook, a saw appliance, a brace and chisel holder (all c 1920), and a hammer (c 1930). The hand is made of light-weight certalmid, a combination of certus glue, muslin and celluloid developed during World War I. Full view.
